Firmware Updates

Why Disable Automatic Firmware Updates?

Firmware updates are an attempt to inhibit the use of fully functional refill/compatible cartridge's -- locking you into brand name cartridges. Managing firmware update on your printer is the most effective way to ensure you will be able to use refill/compatible cartridges. Don't lose your right to choose! This is why we encourage you to shut off your firmware updates.

How To Disable Automatic Firmware Updates for HP printers

Every printer is different, and the process to disable automatic firmware updates will vary, but in most cases, these instructions will work.
Laser printers
  • Using the printer screen – Go to Printer Maintenance
  • Select Allow updates and then choose “NO”. You will get a message discouraging you from this but continue and press “OK.”
  • There can also be an Update Firmware section, located within the printer Maintenance area of the menu. Select this, and under update options, select “OFF.”
  • Some printers will ask you on the Manage Updates screen to prompt before Install, select “Always Prompt” so you are always notified before an update is to occur on your printer
Inkjet printers
  • Using the printer screen – In the Menu options Go to Printer Maintenance
  • Select Printer Update option and choose “Do Not Check”. You will receive a pop-up window to confirm.
  • If your printer has a Printer Updates section, select “Do Not Check For Updates” and Apply. You will receive a pop-up window asking you again about printer updates, select “NO”.
